Hexplora is committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how Hexplora collects and uses your information once you create a profile on the Hexplora.earth site, and what rights you have in relation to your data. Hexplora is owned by Hexplord (Pty) Ltd. (registration 2025/573797/07), a limited liability company operating under the laws of the Republic of South Africa. As we operate in the Republic of South Africa, the company, its products, services and applications must comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

  1. What information does Hexplora collect?
    1. Personal data

      To use Hexplora, you have to provide us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify you. Personally identifiable information may include, but is not limited to:

      • Your email
      • Your first and last name
      • Your profile picture or avatar
      • Your IP address
      • Your unique device identifier
      • Your user ID from your linked Strava account
    2. Activity data

      We collect, process, and store activity data from your Strava account that you link to Hexplora, so that we can maintain the Hexplora site including your global Hexplora grid and leaderboards. Points to note:

      • We collect your Strava data under the terms of the Strava API agreement.
      • You can select whether your private activities are included, or not.
      • The GPS location points generated within each of your activities is represented as a collection of hexagonal cells (hexes) that your activity was carried out in. We do not show any part of your actual activity track or route.
      • Your data becomes publicly accessible to other Hexplora users, but is only represented by the hexes that you have been active in.
      • When you unlink your Hexplora account from Strava, we quickly delete your data.
    3. Payment data

      If you subscribe to Hexplora Premium or Pro, then we may collect data necessary to process your payment.

    4. Web or mobile usage analytics data

      Hexplora is hosted using AWS services and uses SessionRewind and Hubspot to track your usage of the Hexplora website (or app). This data may include information such as your device’s IP address, mobile phone unique ID or UDID, browser type, browser version, pages that you visit, timestamps of your visits, and the amount of time spent on those pages.

  2. How does Hexplora use your data?
    1. Will your information be shared or sold?

      No.

      We hate spam as much as you do!

      Any data collected directly by Hexplora will never be shared with, or sold to, third parties, except in the good faith belief that such an action is necessary to:

      • To comply with a legal obligation
      • To protect and defend the rights or property of Hexplora
      • To prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the Hexplora application
      • To protect the personal safety of users of Hexplora or the public
      • To protect against legal liability
    2. How long will Hexplora keep your information?
      • For as long as you have authorised Hexplora to link to your Strava account

        If you deauthorise Hexplora from linking to your Strava account, your data will be deleted from the Hexplora servers. You can always sign up to Hexplora again and re-link your Strava account.

    3. How secure is my Personal Data?

      The security of your data is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your Personal Data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
